What is AFR?
Audi Formula Racing GmbH (AFR) was founded in 2022 specifically for Audi’s F1 project. The company is responsible for developing and manufacturing the complete drivetrain, including the hybrid drive system and gearbox, for Audi’s participation in Formula 1.
Where is AFR located?
AFR is based at the Audi Neuburg site, which opened in 2014. It is located just 16 kilometers away from the AUDI AG headquarters in Ingolstadt. The site was previously home to Audi’s successful motorsport programs in the DTM, Le Mans, the Dakar Rally and Formula E.
What kind of infrastructure does AFR have in Neuburg?
The existing infrastructure of Audi Sport has been modernized and expanded for the F1 project. A new building with a floor space of around 3,000 square meters expands the test facility and houses specialized workshops and laboratories. AFR has more than 20 state-of-the-art engine and component test benches in Neuburg. Neuburg is the only operational site of an F1 project in Germany. It has been awarded a three-star environmental certification by the FIA – the highest level under FIA guidelines.
